How to make a Spore Syringe from Spore Print
Equipment:
Method
Step 1. Set up the still-air-box and perform the following steps:
Note: A still-air-box or laminar flow hood is optional but highly recommended as it will decrease floating air-borne contaminants contaminating your spore syringe.
Step 2. Fill the sterile container with the sterilized water.
Step 3. Attach the needle to the syringe.
Step 4. Use the syringe to scrape spores off the foil and pour into your sterile container of water.
Step 5. Draw up the spore water from the container with the syringe and recap the needle immediately.
You are now ready to inoculate your grain bag with your new spore syringe!
USEFUL TIP: Test your spore syringe first on an agar plate to ensure it is clean. This can prevent you from inoculating a contaminated syringe into your bag, wasting your time and money.
