Easy 6-Step Guide
6-Step Detailed Instructions
Step 1: Sanitise Workspace
-
Start by creating a clean and sterile environment.
-
Wipe down all surfaces and tools with alcohol wipes or rubbing alcohol.
-
Wear gloves.
Step 2: Prepare Rice Bag
-
Inject 1-2 mL of spores into the instant rice bag, ensuring even distribution of spores.
-
Seal the inoculation spot with micropore tape.
-
Cut off the top corner of the rice bag and cover it with micropore tape to allow for fresh air exchange.
-
Place the inoculated rice bag in a warm, dark spot with temperatures between 22-27°C for colonization. This can 2-4 weeks.
Step 3: Monitor Colonization:
-
Over the next few weeks you'll see white, fluffy mycelium spreading throughout the rice substrate. Once the bag is firm, and the bottom is colonised (white), proceed to the next step.
Step 4: Transfer & Mix
-
Transfer the colonised rice bag and sterilised substrate into your Boom Box tub. Ideally, maintain a ratio of 1:3 (rice to substrate). For example, a 250g rice bag would require 750g substrate.
TIP: Use any remaining substrate to create a casing layer by adding 2-3cm over the top to reduce contamination.
Step 5: Colonisation
-
Seal the Boom Box with included white plugs or tape.
-
Keep the temperature within the range of 22-27°C inside the fruiting chamber.
-
Provide indirect light, as mushrooms require some light to grow.
-
Avoid opening the Boom Box until the top layer is fully colonised by mycelium (white). This can take 1-2 weeks.
Step 6: Fruiting
-
Maintain high humidity by misting the Boom Box 4 - 6 x daily
-
Regularly fan the chamber 4 - 6 x daily to ensure fresh air exchange
-
After a few weeks, you'll start to see mushrooms sprouting!
PERFORM A FLUSH TO GET MORE FRUITS!
Simply submerge the colonized block overnight (8-12 hours) to kickstart mycelium into fruiting mode. Return the block to the tub and continue misting and fanning 4-6 times daily.
